The Takoradi port is located in Takoradi in the western region of Ghana. It was constructed in 1928 to service exports carted by rail transport from the countryside to the coast.
The port is operated by the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority and is the older of the two main ports on Ghana. The harbor handles about 65% of the country’s exports, mainly agricultural, minerals and industrial cargo; and 20% import of mixed cargo.
It is also a major sea transport hub for landlocked west African countries.
